It’s been a while since I stumbled upon a treasure of unparalleled value in the depths of the internet. It helped me find my way during dark times and showed me the light at the end of the tunnel.
I’ve shown this treasure to a few close friends, who I felt might benefit from it too. My belief in its value was confirmed, and so today, I share it with all of you.
The name of this treasure is Heidi Priebe, a popularizer of psychology, and her videos will enchant you – a good start might be her ’10 signs you might have an ___ attachment style’ videos, which I have linked below. To learn about the theory of emotional attachment, you can read for example this article: https://markmanson.net/attachment-styles
Heidi Priebe delves into personal growth, psychology, and relationships in an intense yet understandable and accessible manner. She not only brings charisma and experience to her work but also bases her insights on the actual findings of contemporary psychology. But she doesn’t just give academic lectures; she is an interactive guide that turns people towards self-reflection while also providing the tools for it.
Before you dive into her content, I must warn you that Heidi requires full attention and shouldn’t be listened to casually. Her intensity is such that I often find one video enough material for several days, but that’s what’s fantastic about it!
To start, I recommend her videos below – it’s definitely useful to know what type of emotional attachment we have a tendency towards, doubly so in relationships where we are drawn to people with the opposite attachment, leading to a lot of classic problems.
And if you’re not among those lucky ones who tend towards a secure attachment style, which I would say isn’t common in our country (but hopefully becoming more prevalent among the younger generation), you’ll find plenty of other resources from Heidi on how to work with your attachment style, how to relate to people with different attachment styles, what might have caused it, what you can do about it, and so on.
And even if you tend towards a secure attachment style, learning about what you might gravitate towards in uneasy times and about how wildly different other people can have it is always beneficial!
Just a tip, whether you identify as anxious or avoidant in your attachment style, be sure to also check out the video for fearful-avoidant attachment, so you don’t end up like me, realizing after years that you thought you were in one box and fine, but in reality, you’re in a much more complicated box, and that’s why so many actions and feelings seemingly don’t make sense 🤠
And now, finally, as almost a boomer in our Czech terms, I can say that I’m keeping up with the times and have a favorite YouTuber. Yay.
