After years of psytrance, here is something completely different: Impango, a five-hour amapiano house set recorded on 15 August 2026.
In Zulu the prefix “ama” makes a plural, so amapiano translates roughly as “lots of pianos”. Black South Africa has plenty of homegrown styles, but none of them speaks to foreigners the way amapiano does. We ran into it while visiting South Africa over the 24/25 New Year – it plays practically everywhere down there, and it has kept us warm ever since. These five hours bring 46 of the more approachable pieces, played live as lossless FLAC through one hot summer afternoon.
Impango itself is Zulu for loot. Which suits me nicely as a Czech – being a nation that never had any colonies, we can bring this loot home with a clear conscience, as a curiosity, and get ourselves a few hours of genuine joy and open hearts out of it, even though I myself understand barely a few words of what is being sung. (Nothing here is meant to offend anyone – Czechs simply love black humour, and this is a fair sample of it.)
Mixed for friends with gratefulness and open heart.
